Brendan O’Brien nasce il 7 Luglio del 1950 ad Atlanta (Georgia) e fin dalla giovane età dimostra un notevole interesse per il mondo della musica. Già a quattordici anni infatti, si dilettava come chitarrista nei “Pranxs”(dall’inglese “burle/scherzi”) con i quali riscosse un modesto successo esibendosi in alcuni club della sua città natale. Verso la fine degli anni ’70, il suo interesse in questa sfera maturò in un’altra direzione, sicuramente più specifica e mirata: lasciò la chitarra per dedicare anima e corpo a tutto ciò che riguardasse la produzione di un disco.
Una delle sue prime produzioni fu quella per i Samurai Catfish, band in cui militò per diverso tempo, e per i The Georgia Satellites dove, per un breve periodo, fu anche il loro bassista. Col tempo Brendan maturò molta esperienza e dedizione in questo campo, particolarmente delicato e decisivo per ogni band che si rispetti. La sua ambizione per il mestiere ben presto lo porta alle soglie del suo trampolino di lancio: con i Black Crowes la sua carriera iniziò il decollo e per Brendan si sarebbe prospettata una lunga serie di collaborazioni e produzioni. Decine e decine di artisti prestigiosi si affidarono alla sua abilità che, ben presto, fece di questo produttore un “luminare” indubbiamente tra i più rispettati e quotati sul mercato.
